VILLA NAARDEN

Modern classic villa in Naarden, The Netherlands

In the forests around Naarden, this characteristic rural thatched villa was completed in early 2013. DENOLDERVLEUGELS was responsible for the design of the house, the interior and the garden. The main building consists of 2 layers with a thatched roof. The facade is articulated by means of a masonry peg, a plastered part and a top strip of hardwood parts. The color scheme is natural with a dark color (gray / blue) to accentuate the wooden frames. In the thatched roof, a number of special dormers are included to make the attic as functional as possible. The floors are accessed by a central staircase in a spacious void. The staircase takes a prominent place in the appearance of the house. The staircase differentiates the main form. The staircase is equipped with large glass surfaces that provide a beautiful light fall in the house. The main form is further differentiated by an extension at the rear on which a roof terrace has been created. French doors provide access to the roof terrace, an attractive place where both the morning and evening sun can be enjoyed. The kitchen at the rear of the building has its own thatched roof. The volume can be recognized as a separate part, but flows from the main form and provides a human scale within the spacious layout of the villa. The kitchen is extended with a lounge area with fireplace, with a beautiful oak roof construction above the dining area. In line with the kitchen, a spacious terrace has been constructed, bordered by colorful borders and lush grasses. The outbuilding is built in the style and materialization similar to the main house. Human size, scale, indentations and differentiation within form and material are the main design factors of this villa. They give the villa tension, a human scale and a contemporary character without detracting from the classical setting.
