2009 NATURE ACTIVITY CENTRE OVP

In mid-2009, Staatsbosbeheer held a competition for a new Nature Activity Centre in the Oostvaardersplassen. Together with an ecologist and landscape architect, this design was made. The activity center is located at the edge of the forest, overlooking the Oostvaardersveld. The building is a fusion with its surroundings and has no front or back. The boundary between inside and outside is only recognizable by a thin glass facade. The program takes place both inside and outside. Both in and on the building. The fusion with the environment is not only physical but also increases the mental connection with nature. The ecology is an integral part of the building. The building creates, through ground elevations and green roofs, new ecosystems that can be directly experienced and included in the routing. The main form with rising roofs minimizes the energy demand and allows the building to be self-sufficient. The building has an open floor plan and can therefore be completely flexibly partitioned. Sustainable materials that are close to nature complete the design.
